In 1998, Pre1 Software was born to solve the needs of one weekly newspaper’s software systems. Typical of many publishers, this newspaper used separate systems for Contact Management, Display and Classifieds. Complicating matters, one system was DOS-based, another Macintosh and the third Windows-only. No system could "speak" with the others.
Pre1’s CEO, Jim Abeles, was a manager at that paper and began planning an integrated, cross-platform system to manage these critical business processes.
In the fall of that year, he joined forces with Matt Navarre of MSN Media. Matt had developed software, network and web solutions for a number of newspapers and magazines.
The two formed Pre1 Software, hired additional developers and by late 1999, went live with a beta version of the newly named software, SmartPublisher. Since that time, more than 200 newspapers and magazines have deployed the system ranging from start-ups to publishers billing $20 million a year in advertising through their SmartPublisher software.
Pre1 has continually added developers, trainers and support staff to ensure customers receive the best service and support in this industry as well as the latest technologies and tools to manage revenue streams.
